NEWBIES!! Before Posting READ THIS!!!
If you're new to battling click here first, ask questions and learn about this art.
DO NOT POST CONVERSATION, FREESTYLES, OR BATTLE REQUESTS IN THIS FORUM. YOU DO THAT IN THE FREESTYLE FORUM.... All posts that do not have a NAME vs. NAME title will be either CLOSED or DELETED, depending on the mood of the particular Mod. An easy example of how to set up a battle is as follows: • GOTO the Freestyle forum. Once you are there, ask for a battle. • When the battle has been accepted, start a new thread in the BATTLE ARENA, with the your name vs. your opponents name, in the title. • After the thread has been created, you can both post your verses whenever you want. People will vote once they see that both parties have posted. Tip: People usually won't vote on a battle if they see it has 10 or more replies. They will assume that the battle is already over. To lessen the amount of posts in your thread, try to regulate the number of "freeposting" and "uppin'" posts. If you have to "up" your thread, try and remember to DELETE any previous "up" posts. The thread will remain at the top of the board, but you will not have added any extra, meaningless, "uppin'" posts. To DELETE ONE POST IN A THREAD, or change it in any other way, go to the edit option at the bottom of the desired post. The DELETE button and a corresponding box, will be at the top of the EDIT page...check the box and click on the DELETE button. Be careful. If you DELETE THE FIRST POST OF THE THREAD YOU WILL DELETE THE ENTIRE THREAD! Another way to get people to vote on your battles is to vote yourself. But when voting, remember to be thoughtful and honest. Here are some tips on voting... VOTING An explained vote!!! originally posted by Knowl O'Brian Its simple, a good explained vote is breaking down both verses then comparing them, stating why the winners verse was better than the loosers. In explaining your vote you have 3 major goals. #1 - To prove that you thoroughly read both verses in the battle. #2 - To tell who you think won the battle. (To vote) #3 - To tell why the winner won the battle, and why the looser didn't win. Here's an example of a good vote, a made up vote: First verse: You had nice word usage with vocab, you had a few nice punches, and your verse flowed well. Some of your stuff didn't make sense and then in the middle you sort of fell off. Second verse: Mad punches, and nice flow. I liked the way your verse was structured. You were kind of simplistic and your verse was inconsistent. I think that the first verse won because his he was more consistent. He was ill almost all the way through. The second verses punches and flow just couldn't overcome the first verses vocab and overall illness. vote: first verse That is an explained vote. That isn't long and really wouldn't take that long. Please try to do something like this when voting on battles, especially vet battles. Vote Update Voting has undergone a few changes during text battling evolution, but the basics have always remained the same. 1. A voter is ALWAYS expected to be completely impartial. This means there is no bias in his or her opinion about who won the battle. A voter must always vote according to their personally reaction to a battle. 2. A voter is ALWAYS expected to explain the reasoning behind their vote. This became the norm after a plague of newbies began creating alias's to vote under and a general wave of newbies started voting before even knowing the basics about battling. 3. A breakdown IS NOT a vote. The breakdown began as an EXTENTION of the original vote, it then became fashionable and soon became the norm to use a breakdown before going on to explain your vote. We are now encountering people breaking down verses and believing this is what's expected of them. A breakdown is a bonus, it IS NOT a vote. Voting is simple really. This is what Richard Corey wrote at the top of this forum in a shorter version. Vote for who you HONESTLY thought won the battle, Explain why you thought they won the battle, and explain WHY you thought their opponent lost the battle. Your vote should be at least a paragraph long with more than 1 explanation of why the person won and why the opponent lost. It doesn't matter what method or format you decide to use, there should be adequate explanation cuz you'd expect the same. BUT ABOVE ALL, HAVE FUN! If you want to Freestyle, we have a forum for that, if you want to talk about politics and news, we have a forum for that too. Just try to keep everything in it's assigned place... Thanks these rules were written by Richard Corey
