actually, i believe in some of the basic truths presented here as far as standards for writing poetry go

i also do not believe art is catharsis. I couldn't say I really like Aristotle, he was a wisecracking asshole only good for telling people what to do


but some of the things written in "Poetics" and some of his other doctrines make sense to me. I can't take it as a whole because for what it's worth it was written a shitload of centuries ago. some rings true, some sounds idiotic. such is the way of all people, and learning to subtract what applies and doesn't is an important tool in reading.
